Kuala Lumpur Railway Station

You might feel as if you stepped into Arabia when you see this former railway station with its domes and minarets. Today, part of it has been converted into an inexpensive hotel - a very attractive place for budget travelers. Built in 1910, this stunning Moorish-style terminal is a delight for photography buffs.

It was designed by architect A.B. Hubbock, who also designed the Jamek Mosque. After an extensive refurbishment, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station now provides air-conditioned comfort and modern facilities for rail passengers. Across the street is the Malayan Railway Building, another Moorish extravagance from the British colonial period. It is linked to the station by an underground thoroughfare.

Very sadly, all the Intercity train services doesn't stop here anymore because there is a new railway station opened called KL Sentral. Only Commuter train stops here. It is located less than 1KM away from the old railway station.

The station is equipped with air-conditioned waiting halls, snack kiosks, money-changing booths, souvenir shops, restaurants and a tourist information counter. Across the street is the Malayan Railway Administration Building, another fine example of the British colonial adaptation of Moorish architecture. It is linked to the station by an underground thoroughfare.

I love going by here. You got some great photos. When I was in KL last year I tried my best, but I just couldn't get a good shot. Anyway, I do hope you will check out my Southeast Asia travel and leave me a comment when you have the chance. I am going to add this to my blogroll!
