Exciting Sri Hartamas

Sri Hartamas is one of Kuala Lumpur ’s newest residential neighbourhoods. The parks and other greeneries are beautifully manicured and the wide streets are kept clean. But alas, such beauty and lifestyle comes at a price and the real estate value at Sri Hartamas is considerably higher compared to the other suburbs. It is fully equipped with all the conveniences of modern technology such as wireless and broadband internet. It is a magnet for expatriates and upper middle class young professionals who are seeking the status that comes with living in Sri Hartamas.

Restaurants, shops and bars are strategically located at Desa Sri Hartamas, Plaza Damas and the Hartamas Shopping Centre to cater to the entire neighbourhood. Familiar names such as Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Mcdonald’s, Burger King and Guardian Pharmacy sit amidst the offerings that Sri Hartamas has to offer. Choices of country clubs such as The Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, the Royal Selangor Club and the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club situated nearby. True Fitness Gym and Yoga Zone are also nearby to give fitness more variety.

We believe that more and more shoplots are being built around the Sri Hartamas area which will greatly increase the number of restaurants and pubs in the area. We have been informed by the residents that the infrastructure there like the roads and amenities are being planned and upgraded.

The traffic influx as well as other new developments nearby has brought an increasing number of people to the area. Through some of its isolation is gone, the young Malaysian professionals that initially moved into the area stayed on

Visiting Zoo Negara Malaysia

Zoo Negara Malaysia is now 45 years old and has matured into a well-known zoo all around the world. It was officially opened to the public in 1963. Zoo Negara have a total of over 5137 animals from 459 species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, exotic mammals, reptiles and birds. Of these, the majority are fish and bird species while about a hundred are mammals and the reptiles.

I can’t remember when my last trip to Zoo Negara was,it must be more than a decade ago. I was surprised that the zoo was in good condition. Maintenance is an issue and many of these beautiful exhibits are now covered in thick foliage therefore you might not be able to spot the lion or tiger hiding behind the thick bushes.. I always thought our Zoo Negara was poorly managed. It’s probably still far from being world class, but it’s good enough to provide a decent experience for visitors.

Located in Ampang, the Zoo Negara technically in the state of Selangor but its only 5 minutes from Kuala Lumpur city (depending on which part of the city you are coming from). Over 4000 animals from 400 different species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish supposedly live at the zoo but you won’t be able to see all 4000 of them. You can consider yourself lucky if you manage to spot half of that.

walking to Aquaria KLCC entrence from Suria KLCC

It was unmistakably the school holidays, with kids swarming in high-pitched stampedes into Suria KLCC all morning. Apologetic-looking parents trail the pack, succumbing to the infinite curiosity and not to mention the immeasurable energies of their children. There are three shallow pools with swimming creatures where you can touch and catch with your hands. The tunnel underneath the shark-tank was impressive. On this travelator, big sharks, sting rays and other rather large fish swooped overhead or just lazily floated past.

The admission fees are RM38 for adults and RM26 for children. Seems expensive eh? But you will be glad to know that there are discounts for locals who present their MyKad. After discounts, it would be RM28 for adults, RM22 for children.

Experience Malaysian Culture at Central Market

This fine example of Kuala Lumpur's architectural heritage also doubles as an air-conditioned arts and crafts market. The Central Market is just a stone's throw from Klang Bus Station and is situated immediately behind the Dayabumi building. Spend a morning wondering through what was once a busy 'wet market'! This pre-war building was the principal wet market for Kuala Lumpur in earlier years. It was extensively renovated in the early 1980's and redesignated as an arts and cultural centre.

The Central Market in Kuala Lumpur is considered by many to be the best place in town to experience Malaysian culture, art and craft. Formerly a wet market where vegetables, meat and fish were sold, the Central Market is today a beautiful building and a must see attraction if you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur for the first time.

At the riverside amphitheatre outside, rich cultural experiences await. Enjoy performances, demonstrations and hands-on batik painting. Also, find out more about heritage activities like Chinese fortune-telling, Malay shadow puppet plays and Indian dances.

Inside, local artists also sell paintings while they demonstrate their artistry on-site. The market is also a treasure trove of traditional arts and crafts. Several pieces of furniture can also be found upstairs. The Central Market hosts plenty of talented Malaysian artists who display their works of art and visitors can even have their portrait painted or even have intricate glass souvenirs specially made for them by the glass blowers.

The Twin Petronas Towers are well worth a visit in their own right, so if you are in the area you might as well also check out the Suria KLCC and its attendant aquarium.
